I was due to release A Tall Poppy as a book in late 2024, early 2025 but other writing commitments and teaching at Fight Fortress are taking up my time and so, after giving it much thought, we have decided to release it as a series of videos that will be premiered here and on our YouTube channel.
If you are unfamiliar with my background and story, I was brought up by a man who I later on realised (admitted) was an abuser (non-sexual), and a man who wanted to control what I did and stifle any growth I tried to make. It was pointed out to me by a very respected book agent that I was indeed a survivor.
However, I also had some fantastic support at my side, friends and family, and I managed to do okay. Some would say better than okay but that is for other people to judge.
So the suffocating, toxic masculinity I was subject to did not crush me or finish me off, though it came close.
In A Tall Poppy I will talk about my background and hopefully help any father/son relationship that may need it.
I can't promise it will be an easy listen/watch but I can tell you it will all be 100% honest.
